Talisay Landing Memorial

The Inscription Stone.

The Inscription Stone with the Three Flag Poles.

This heritage serves as the commemorative mark during the liberation forces of General MacArthur – U.S. soldiers during landings at Talisay Beach on the 26th of March 1945 World War II.

A remarkable scene called the Landing Memorial with the statue of US General of the 8th Military District. The said heritage can be found in Poblacion, Talisay City, Cebu.

Here lands the American Division of the U.S. 8th Army led by Com. Gen. William H. Arnold and Capt. Albert T. Sprague, assisted by the Philippine Guerrilla of the 8th Military District under the leadership of Lt. Col. James M. Cushing on March 26, 1945.

The landing is part of the Victor II operation carried out by Gen. Douglas MacArthur to recover the provinces of Cebu, Bohol and Negros.

This gave way to the liberation of the City of Cebu on 27 March 1945; and the surrender of the Japanese to the province on August 28, 1945.

                  Panagdaong Statue
The iconic place of Talisay City.

When we arrived at the place,
I saw a lot of trash in the area.
Instead of sitting on the stone chairs,

people were sitting and standing
on top of the stone barrier.
.

The floor tiles on the way to the statues were covered with wet sand.

Children were playing with the wet sand and mushy water

I saw tons of trash along the shoreline.

Few couples were hanging out,
friends chatting along the side of the monument,
while others enjoyed taking photos and selfies.

For me, the place was dirty because they did not clean it. It could be also due to no appointed maintenance to clean the place.

There may be appointed maintenance people, however, they only clean the heritage and respect the place or statues when it is the celebration day (March 26) of the Talisay landing.

So, I hope they would clean the place everyday and respect it, as well because the memories of how they helped us from the Japanese and if it was not for the US 8th Army, we could still be under the Japanese.

Also, I hope that all the people will treat the place properly for the future generations to still see its real essence and remember it because it symbolizes the Talisay City's liberation.
